OPPORTUNITIES FOR HIGH-PERFORMING AGRICULTURE GRADUATES TO CONTRIBUTE TO NATIONALLY SIGNIFICANT AND INTERNATIONALLY FUNDED DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

We write on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, which carries a broad national mandate covering agriculture, irrigation development, livestock development, land administration, water-resource management, food security, climate resilience, and rural economic advancement across Sri Lanka.

The Ministry and its affiliated institutions are responsible for, or closely associated with, a significant portfolio of nationally and internationally supported initiatives, including the Climate-Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project, Green Climate Fund-supported climate-resilience interventions, the National ‘Wari Mahima – Ape Urumaya’ Programme, and a range of other donor-assisted, internationally benchmarked, and nationally funded development assignments.

Operating under this wider ministerial umbrella, the Mahaweli Consultancy Bureau (MCB) functions as a leading professional consultancy arm that provides multidisciplinary technical, research, project-management, monitoring, analytical, advisory, and implementation-support services. MCB supports the delivery of major national programmes and international consultancy assignments by mobilising qualified professionals, coordinating specialist inputs, undertaking field and analytical work, and strengthening institutional delivery capacity.

In response to the growing demand for skilled personnel to support these assignments, MCB is seeking high-performing agriculture graduates who demonstrate strong academic achievement, analytical ability, research capability, practical competence, professional discipline, effective communication skills, and the potential to contribute to complex multidisciplinary projects.

Opportunities may be available for suitable graduates to contribute to ongoing projects, consultancy assignments, and strategic initiatives implemented by the Mahaweli Consultancy Bureau. The nature and scope of each engagement will depend on the requirements of the relevant project or initiative and the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and areas of interest.

Priority consideration will be given to First Class and Second Upper Class Honours graduates, as well as other exceptional candidates recommended by the Faculty. Selected graduates may be engaged on project-based assignments and provided with exposure to experienced professionals, government institutions, donor-funded programmes, field-level interventions, applied research, and the planning and implementation of major development initiatives.

The engagement framework is intended to provide attractive and competitive project-based remuneration, with enhanced earning potential depending on the nature of the assignment, individual performance, specialised contributions, level of responsibility, and participation in multiple projects. These opportunities may also be suitable for graduates who intend to pursue postgraduate studies while remaining actively engaged in demanding professional and research assignments.

Accordingly, we kindly request the Faculty to identify and recommend suitable final-year students and recent graduates. Applications supported by a recommendation from the Dean, Head of Department, relevant lecturer, academic supervisor, or another senior academic who can comment on the candidate’s academic performance, research potential, technical competence, and professional suitability will receive priority consideration.

Interested candidates are requested to submit their curriculum vitae, academic transcript or results summary, a brief statement of interest, and an academic recommendation, where available, through the official application portal indicated below. Candidates should clearly state their academic specialization, research interests, technical and software skills, project or field experience, and preferred areas of contribution.

Applications may be submitted through the official portal provided below. Candidates or Faculty representatives who require further information may contact the designated officer using the email or WhatsApp details given below.
