The National Organic Control Unit (NOCU) of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board is the official regulatory body for the certification, quality, and compliance of organic agricultural products in the country.
NOCU ensures the adherence of organic stakeholders to the Sri Lanka Organic Standard (SLS 1324:2018) and international organic regulations. It plays a key role in monitoring all the organic stakeholders as well as certification bodies, and promoting organic farming through training and awareness programs.
Nowadays, NOCU is working with the United Kingdom Trade Partnership (UKTP) Program to amend the Sri Lankan Organic Regulation and Organic Standard to obtain the IFOAM Organic International (a global organization advocating for organic agriculture) recognition and achieve compliance with the Sri Lanka Organic Standard.
A logo is important for an organization for its brand recognition, fostering trust and loyalty, and creating a consistent visual identity that distinguishes it from other entities, more specifically from its competitors. NOCU introduced the existing logo in the year 2014, considering the market requirements at that time, and it is now high time to come up with a new logo considering the changes in the field of organic agriculture locally as well as universally.
An opportunity is provided for university undergraduates in the field of Agriculture to come up with their visual representations on developing a new logo for NOCU covering the following guidelines.
· Utilize two colors only (dark green on a white background)
· Highlight the principles of Organic Agriculture (Health, Ecology, Fairness, & Care)
· It needs to be simple and practiced to utilize in the packaging.
· Geometrical shape in the outline (e.g.: square, triangle, circle, etc.)
· A very simple one, easy to insert into any type of packaging of a food product.
· Easily adjusted in diverse applications (e.g.: the logo can easily be adjusted to several color versions of packaging and can easily be used on a green-colored, white-colored and black-colored background containing packaging as well)
· Symbolize the Sri Lankan identity / Culture / Agriculture
· Minimalist, modern, clean, and versatile, making it suitable for various branding applications.
